Go To Post     Guess the size of this piece? 🐞 Read through and I’ll tell ya.... I finished this pendant for patient and encouraging Meg who saw one of the amazing tablet cut @sorbetsapphire Australian sapphires I posted to my story a couple months ago. She snagged this 0.50ct tiny cutie. This sapphire is just slightly bigger than the size of a #2 pencil eraser (swipe through for a non-close up video of it!). The smaller size is very common for sapphires as they’re very valuable and often used in delicate, heirloom pieces because they’re extremely durable. However, this was a huuuugely challenging little piece for me to hand fabricate. It’s way easier for me to create a larger setting in metal...but I love miniatures and I love a challenge. I redid the prongs many times and when you’re sawing out and soldering something this tiny, magnification is needed throughout every single step. I literally felt like an insect with too giant of hands working on this piece. It’s definitely not easy nor is it a fast process...this was weeks in the making.😬▫️ . Thank you Meg for the inspiration and freedom to create. PS She is in the mining industry and a geologist...she said the growth lines in this sapphire drew her right in. Gemstone lovers unite. Meg, you don’t just get 4 talon prongs, you get 6!! 🙌👑 I really thought this would be lovely and protective with having a prong on each little side of the gem. Whew, I am so glad to complete this piece, and hoping to finish out the rest of my work load early next week so I can really focus on adding new stuff on knotandsplice.com.
